Aftermarket Coaching & Advocacy

Sabra Johnson’s journey in the automotive aftermarket began with a profound personal loss. After the passing of his father, Sabra found mentorship that guided him toward a career and purpose. This formative experience sparked a commitment to "pay it forward," shaping his dedication to mentoring others and building pathways for success.

One of Sabra’s most impactful contributions is the Jr. Car Builders Apprentice Program, now in its 12th year. This transformative initiative introduces high school students to the rewarding opportunities of a vocational aftermarket career. Beyond that, it serves as a beacon of hope and skill-building for ex-offenders seeking a fresh start and veterans coping with post-traumatic stress. Through the therapeutic and creative process of car restoration, participants not only gain technical skills but also rediscover purpose and confidence. Many alumni have gone on to achieve personal and professional success, securing roles within the aftermarket industry or continuing their education at prestigious institutions like McPherson College of Restoration.

Sabra also plays a pivotal role in addressing pressing issues facing the industry. One such topic is the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vs. EV (Electric Vehicle) debate, which has far-reaching implications for Main Street America. Sabra’s first-hand understanding of how families depend on the aftermarket industry enables him to advocate passionately for the preservation of this cherished hobby and the livelihoods it supports. With a unique perspective and extensive industry connections, he works tirelessly to ensure legislators and policymakers understand how sweeping legislative changes affect small-town communities and working families. Sabra’s advocacy emphasizes the delicate balance between embracing innovation and preserving the cultural and economic fabric of the automotive aftermarket.

The art of restoration is another pillar of Sabra’s mission. He is deeply committed to preserving the traditions, techniques, and oral histories of this craft, which have historically been shared in a tight-knit, almost secretive community. Recognizing the risk of these invaluable skills becoming extinct, Sabra has taken it upon himself to bridge the generational gap, ensuring that the knowledge of his era is passed down to future enthusiasts and professionals.

Sabra’s contributions to education and mentorship are vast. He has served on the SEMA ARMO Council, hosted the highly regarded Builder Teaching Series at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, and spearheaded initiatives like SEMA Across America, which brings the restoration and customization culture to a wider audience. Through these efforts, Sabra not only mentors builders across the globe but also fosters a greater understanding and appreciation for the car hobby and the restoration arts.

Sabra Johnson’s mission is clear: to inspire, educate, and advocate. Whether it’s mentoring the next generation, standing up for the rights of Main Street businesses, or preserving the artistry of car restoration, Sabra is a man driven by purpose, passion, and an unwavering commitment to the industry he loves.
